First Look - 2022 Harley-Davidson® Nightster
The Harley-Davidson® Sportster has been the company’s entry-level machine for years, but a 2022 model gives riders a new avenue. The New Harley-Davidson® Nightster promises to deliver a leap forward in performance and design. As expected from H-D, the 975T Revolution Max engine provides a good ride experience with plenty of power down low that doesn't leave you wanting more when cruising on the freeway or just messing around at the local coffee shop.
The 2022 Harley-Davidson® Nightster is powered by the 975T Revolution Max V-twin engine
The 2022 Harley-Davidson® Nightster is powered by the new 975T Revolution Max V-twin engine. The 60-degree V-twin shares many of the same design features as its bigger brother, the Pan America. Like the Sportster S and Pan America models, this smaller bike uses liquid cooling for optimal performance and reliability.
The new 975 engine makes 90 horsepower and 70 pound-feet of torque, a significant increase over Sportster models that run the 883cc and 1200cc Evolution engines.
Unlike other motorcycles in the Harley-Davidson® lineup, the Nightster features a tank-shaped airbox
Unlike other motorcycles in the Harley-Davidson® lineup, the Nightster features a tank-shaped air box. The tank looks like it holds gas, but it's really a cover for an airbox. This airbox location allows for a larger volume of space for intake, resulting in a straight shot into the cylinders. You might be wondering where the fuel tank is? The relocated 3.1-gallon fuel tank is under the seat, creating a lower center of gravity for improved handling and easier maneuvering. With these key differences, the Nightster seat height stands at 27 inches, making it easy for shorter riders to maneuver and reach the ground without feeling too stretched out on their feet.
Complementing the short height is the weight of the Nightster, which weighs in at 480lbs. (80 pounds lighter than the most Sportster models), leaving plenty of weight left over to load up on camping gear for a night out of town.
The chassis is redesigned with impressive cornering abilities.
One of the most striking features of this bike is its chassis. The engine of the Nightster is a stressed member, built around a rigid steel frame for a modern twist. This not only gives it an aesthetic advantage, but also makes for better handling and stability when riding hard.
The Harley-Davidson® Nightster offers preload-adjustable Dual Shock suspension in the back and telescopic-style fork with Showa's Dual Bending Valve system upfront to ensure that you're always in control.
Electronic Ride Modes and safety features
If you're looking for a bike that's both comfortable and capable, the Nightster is a good bet. The Road, Sport, and Rain ride modes control how much ABS traction control, and Drag-Torque Slip Control (DTSCS) is provided to give you a range of performance from mild to wild. This allows you to ride at your comfort level, with maximum traction control when you need it most.
