Our 2018 trip to Utah & the Bonneville Salt Flats

Dec. 29 2018 Adventures By Doug Belway

I rode that down to St. George Utah this past August (2018) with my love Jen and a couple of friends. Jen was on a 1993 Dyna Lowrider that has been converted into a Trike with a Frankenstein rear end , and our friends were on a Can-am Spider with a trailer.

Our first overnight stop was in Ellensburg, Oregon. We might have made it a little farther If we didn’t get side tracked to Seatac International Airport by our friends GPS. Still not sure how that happened, I knew we needed to turn off on to highway 90 but I was following.

Our next overnight stop was in Jackpot Nevada. From Jackpot we rode down the 93 to Wells, and through Ely, Pioche, and finally into St. George Utah.

It took 2.5 days down. We stayed in Kayenta, a little desert community under the big red mountain. We stayed in the area for a few days visiting Jen's parents.

Coming back we took 3.5 days, not so rushed. Our first stop was probably the best stop for me. I’ve always wanted to go to  and run my bike on the salt flats. Finally I was able we did a bunch of runs up and down the flats, there was nobody there just us! Not sure if we were supposed to be out there or not.... Had the time of our lives. 100 mph was all I could get out of the Dyna as it wasn’t jetted for the high elevation. Stayed at the Wendover Nugget Hotel. I do not recommend staying there:(

The rest of the trip was good we stopped in Boise Idaho, Spokane Washington, and then home via US highways. It was sunny all the way there and back until we hit very heavy rain in Bellingham. Already planning the next trip;)
